The recording of this 1966 song from the album “Revolver” involved some sonic innovations, particularly thanks to the lateral thinking of Geoff Emerick, who was on his FIRST DAY as engineer on a Beatles’ record at the age of only 20 years. This is another momentous Beatles recording, a genius of a finale to the great “Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” record. Once again a brilliant song by John Lennon with some studio touches never seen before, including an orchestra improvising between two notes and a final chord which seems to go on forever. In my humble opinion, and I’ve thought a lot about this, “Strawberry Fields Forever” is the greatest pop recording of all time. It involved some amazing work in the studio before the age of digital recording and is a brilliant psychedelic trip of a song.
